Brian Blessed’s revelation that he is looking to become the first Briton to visit the deepest point on Earth has garnered us worldwide coverage

It seems there is no stopping the media coverage that our exclusive interview with Brian Blessed in the latest issue of CALIBRE Quarterly is generating. This time the national treasure has made the headlines for announcing that he wants to be the first Briton to reach the bottom of the Mariana Trench – even at the ripe old age of 79!

Of course, Brian has previous when it comes to adventurous feats, having already become the oldest man to trek to the magnetic north pole, completed astronaut training with Russia and even survived a plane crash on a Venezuelan jungle expedition. Naturally, we wondered what great feat he would be attempting next and he told us: “I want to go to the bottom of the Marianas Trench in a bathysphere – all the way 37,000ft down. You must understand, I do believe death exists, despite constantly defying it. But I live out on a limb!”
